Lets Get Together in Kansas City!

Hello Family!

It has been almost 15 years since our last gathering and KC Cousins will host a reunion in Kansas City, MO next summer (2014).   We are in the early stages of organizing and we want to get a sense of who is available to come.  Our coming together will take place over three days - Friday, Saturday & Sunday.  Some dates we are considering are as follows:

June 27^th, 28^th & 29^th

Or

July 18^th, 19^th & 20^th

Please Note: Whichever weekend works best, we will have our picnic THAT Saturday.

Please RSVP by October 30^th.  This is a soft RSVP and does not lock you into any obligations.  We are just trying to get a sense as to who is interested in coming.

Let us know who in your family is able to attend.  Once we get an idea of who is coming, we will begin to plan the picnic along with other festive activities. 

Due to the harsh nature of the economy, we are exploring affordable options that will allow for maximum comfort and enjoyment.  Our main goal is to bring family together!

In other news, several folks from Kansas City visited Vian, Oklahoma on Memorial Day weekend with Zelma Dockery (oldest living daughter of Birdie and Robert Herron).  The group was inspired to revisit this place as it represents a significant portion of Herron family history.  Photographs will be uploaded on our blog soon.  In addition, we will be creating a facebook page so that we can connect via social media.

It's Time!

Hello!

Our last family reunion was 14 years ago in Kansas City, MO and it is long overdue for us to come together!  I have enjoyed meeting new family members via social media and am anxious to connect with family. 

Kansas City cousins (LaShonda Dockery, Sharlene Drummond, Tammy Jackson, Jackie Golden and I) are working to arrange a reunion in 2014 (date to be determined) but in the meantime we are planning a trip to Vian, Oklahoma this coming Labor Day weekend 2013.  The Vian gathering will serve as a precursor to the reunion that will take place next year.  On Saturday, August 31st we are planning to drive from Kansas City, MO to Vian (about a 4 hour drive) and return to KC Sunday morning.  While in Vian we will visit the farm and any other places that remain as a reminder of our history.  We will also visit the final resting place of Birdie and Robert Herron and spend Saturday night in Muskogee (about 20 minutes from Vian).   We will drive back to KC on Sunday morning.


The Vian Labor Day trip is coming up soon and due to the short notice, I know it may not be possible for many people to attend this part of our coming together.  If you think you might be able to attend please RSVP as soon as possible (by July 20th if possible) to my email account which is bbybeth@yahoo.com.  If you have any questions, please call 816-966-0283.

Also, we are in the midst of a digital divide so I am asking that family members please help with contacting other family members who do not have a computer or are 'off the grid.'   

This blog will be constantly evolving and will serve as a community bulletin board.  I encourage folks to send photographs to me and I will add them to our gallery.
